Biography:
A native of Tennessee, James R. LaFevor’s legal career spans more than three decades. Mr. LaFevor provides legal expertise for the central region of East Tennessee, focusing his practice in the areas of Family Law; Family and Medical Leave Act; Divorce, Discrimination, Sexual Harassment; Wrongful Termination; Personal Injury; Car Accidents, Wrongful Death; Estate Litigation, Guardianship and Conservatorship, as well as Wills, Probate and Workers Compensation.
After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University, Mr. LaFevor earned his Ranger Tab and served in the U.S. Army Artillery as a Captain for 39 months in Germany and Vietnam before continuing his studies at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He earned his Juris Doctorate, was admitted to the Tennessee State Bar, and became an instructor at the University of Tennessee College of Law Legal Clinic for two years, followed by an Assistant Professor of Law, Trial Practice position at the University of Tennessee for twelve years.
In 1988 Mr. LaFevor joined the law firm of Rowland & Rowland, P.C. and worked for the firm until 1999. He continued his career in the firm of Nickle and LaFevor and he later established the law office of James R. LaFevor.
James LaFevor is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association and served on the Committee on Continuing Legal Education, 1983, 1984 and Alternative Dispute Resolution, 1992 through 1996. He was also active in various committees and Chair of the Small Firm/Solo Practice Section. He is a member of the Tennessee Bar (Member, Committee on Legal Aid and Lawyer Referral, 1984-1986), the American Bar Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association. The Army awarded him a Bronze Star, Air Medal and various citations and service medals.
Mr. LaFevor belongs to Phi Gamma Mu and Phi Alpha Delta, legal fraternities and was honored as a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award, Practice Courses. Mr. LaFevor is the author of: "Tennessee Criminal Procedure," Tennessee Judicial Training Systems, 1974; "Tennessee Garnishment Law," Tennessee Judicial Training Systems, Fall, 1975.
